Welcome to the restaurant of not-quite-right...
First off, advertised as Bangkok market, this is not a market, and
misleading.
What this is, though, is a residence turned restaurant with a run-down
exterior appearance. Seriously, dead banana tree, letters peeling on the
home-made "COW POT" sign, broken fence, the whole structure is badly in
need of paint.
I went for a Friday 7 PM dinner and almost turned around. I proceeded
cautiously, because of the two cars parked in front into what appears to be
a very dark covered mexican food court big enough to have a square dance.
Entering the establishment, I saw a couple, who stated "food is good and
they are local repeat customers"
The server is the 14 y/o grandson. He is young and well mannered, but
spilled food, forgot orders, and loudly stated "We're out of ice!"...so
much for iced tea idea.
I ordered Thai tea: very good taste.
I ordered sausage appetizer: solid red pepper in the first bite, very
little taste otherwise...
I ordered rice soup: water+rice+chopped vegetables = very little flavor...
I ordered laab neua (spicy ground beef over rice): good and spicy, but not
enough lime flavor, and much too much oil.
I (seriously) ordered a Sing Ha beer to wash it down, but could not finish
half.
I just returned from Thailand. The food does not have authentic "Thai-
taste". This must seem like a harsh review, but this comes from an easy-
going guy who is hardly ever critical about his food. I'm just disappointed
that the Google search of "Thai restaurant Panama City" only came up with
this quality establishment. I probably won't return. I heard from the local
couple inside that the family are good, kind, hard working people.
I went the Waffle House and ordered a pecan waffle just to get the taste
out of my mouth.
