My husband and I have loved this restaurant for years and consider it the "special" place for birthdays, anniversaries, and other important occasions. The waitstaff is always attentive and very knowledgable and the food is extraordinary.

Our faves include the Stuffed Grouper (with Gouda), the filet, and always, always, the signature dessert...the mile high banana pie.

Caution...this meal for two, including a glass or two of wine or beer will cost around $100.00. It's totally worth it, though, and a meal you'll not soon forget.

I think this place is wonderful! The food is delicious and the waitstaff is very helpful and very polite. I would eat there again and would reccomend it to friends and family. Prices could come down a bit but other then that its a great place to eat.

We have traveled far and wide, experiencing many "eating vacations" as well as genealogy trips, and consider the BEST CELLAR in Blowing Rock, NC to be one of the best dining establishments anywhere. And best of all, our grandson feels welcome there!
Not only is the setting extraordinary, but the staff is knowledgeable and courteous. The crab is divine. My husband loves the Filet Oscar, and is a huge fan of the ever popular baked Acorn Squash with brown sugar! Fish is flown in daily and as a Trout Lover I have never been disappointed. The Trout Almandine is my favorite. A dining experience to be treasured. After dinner we recommend you tour the rooms here as well. Known as the Inn at the Ragged Garden. Step back in time when life was elegant and calm nest =xt to a cozy fire. This is when i wish we were not local so we could stay the weekend and have the full experience. Perhaps next time we shall stay overnight anyway! Judy & Allan Wagner, Boone, NC

My wife and I have been celebrating our wedding anniversary every year since 1991 at the Best Cellar restaurant. We have never been dissapointed with food, service,or staff. Rob and Lisa are exceptional hosts making every visit a special one for us. The wait staff is professional and very knowledgeable about every special and regular fare on the menu. We always try to get a table when we have out of town guests staying at our house. The trip up the mountain from Newton is well worth the time, and our guests have never been disappointed.
The Best Cellar will always be our favorite place to go and have that special evening out.

ew, ew. Not good at all. loved Crippens and Twiggs. This was by far the worst meal we had in Blowing Rock. The wait staff could not even answer simple questions we had. We were embarrased to bring company there. The only thing they have going is the location.

My wife and I live in the Blowing Rock area and have dined at the Best Cellar at least a dozen times over the past few years. We have always been treated as a valued customer and have always enjoyed the dining experience. The wait staff is competent and friendly and the food is great. The Best Cellar is our favorite place to eat in the area.

Do NOT go to the Best Cellar in Blowing Rock. I expected to celebrate my 25th birthday at a great fine dining establishment, but was instead insulted and patronized by the owner/manager in front of everyone else at the restaurant over simple questions about our bill.

Our waitress miscommunicated the charges for food substitutions, which made our bill A LOT higher than we suspected. My boyfriend's steak was charred after specific directions that he did not want it burned... my filet was fatty and cold... and the attitude of the wait staff was impatient. It wasn't until we asked to speak to the owner/manager about the extra charges on the bill that I was floored with even worse behavior.

I have never been spoken to like that in a restaurant ever before. The owner insulted our intelligence, blamed us for not knowing about the extra charges (even though we were misled to begin with), and even used the free birthday dessert they gave me as collateral... I didn't even ASK for the dessert!

The Best Cellar is a snotty establishment with rude management. I am still baffled by our treatment to this day.
