Recently we tried the Camel City Cafe in dowtown wintson salem. It was for a special event, a birthday, and no other restaurant could have been better. The inside is beautiful, the service was friendly yet PROFESSIONAL (some places lack that), and the food phenomenal. We started with seafood appetizer with scallops, shrimp, etc. For entree, I ordered the duck with port wine sauce (if that gives you an idea of the menu) and I have never had it better anywhere else. My husband's dish was just as wonderful. For dessert, we wanted the smore dessert but they were out (it was so unique, it is hard to find desserts that everybody doesn't do). The chef/owner (very gracious and warm) came out to ask us how our meal was and when he found out about the birthday, our creme brulee was his treat. I couldn't say more wonderful things about this restaurant because it is the best fine dining experience I have had in NC, possibly anywhere. The only areas not to receive 5 stars are the value section (it was not overpriced for it category by any means but it will not as inexpensive as regular, casual restaurants- for fine dining the value was great) and kids friendly (don't take the kids, leave them with a sitter and have a wonderful, grown-up experience).
