The first Charlie's opened for business on Balboa Island in the Summer of 1967, because no restaurant served the ideal bowl of chili. "Charlie" was invented because he went well with Chili. Even though Charlie's physical location moved from the Bay to the Pier in 1972, the original Spirit of Charlie's on the Bay had moved right along with us.
