For the BEST coffee, tea and cakes in town - go to the Coffee Grinder. It's run by the most fantastic new Mom, who bakes all the incredibly delicious cakes, muffins, scones etc. herself and she's the most wonderful hostess you could ever meet. Always friendly and smiling, and must know half of the residents of Newport by now! Also, this has one of the best views in town too - sitting outside on the wharf, watching the boats go by. I can't recommend this place enough. Needless to say, since discovering the Coffee Grinder I've not visited Starbucks once (or anywhere else nearby, come to think of it!!). One last thing, in addition to fantastic cakes, your coffee or tea is served in a proper china cup/mug. I'm a big fan of any establishment that does not automatically serve your beverage in a disposable cup. More needs to be done to reduce packaging/waste in this country.
