Maybe you don't associate New Jersey with top-notch race car driving, or maybe you don't associate it with miles and miles of beautiful beaches. Maybe it's time you took another look. Got a need for speed? Monmouth County, located about an hour from New York City, is home to Wall Township Speedway, hosting stock car racing events from April through November, and Old Bridge Township Raceway Park where drag car racers and fans can let it all hang out. Here, the NHRA Super Nationals are held, as well as the Richard Petty Driving Experience. Monmouth County as well as adjacent Ocean County, are also destination spots for fishers and water lovers from all over the Eastern Seaboard. Asbury Park Beach has a boardwalk with fishing allowed from the jetty, while Avon-By-The-Sea features a designated surfing beach. As with many other area beaches, they are handicapped accessible with surf chairs available for rent. Campers can find a haven at one of four local campgrounds including Turkey Swamp Park Campground or Chesapeake State Park. History buffs can find plenty to interest them as well. Monmouth County is home to Fort Hancock, Camp Evans, and the National Guard Militia Museum of New Jersey. For a thrill, why not try a roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure or go parasailing with Belmar Parasail? Love to golf? Monmouth County has got you covered there as well.
