Firebirds introduced a taste of Colorado to the Carolinas when it first opened its doors in Charlotte, North Carolina in December of 2000. The creative concept of owner, Dennis Thompson, Firebirds Colorado lodge atmosphere features architectural designs as grand as the Rockies themselves. The oversized stone fireplace, exposed wooden beams and stacked stone columns make for a cozy, comfortable setting. The southwest inspired decor introduces a contemporary feel. The open air kitchen and smoky aromas from the hardwood flames infuse the restaurant, while the upbeat music pulsing through the room gives off a cool, hip vibe. The sum of all these details makes for one very dynamic dining experience.

I have eaten here 3 times now. The 1st experience was wonderful, I had good service and a great steak. The 2nd time was so-so, thought it was an off night, and gave them the benift of the doubt. The 3rd time was not the charm, my $28 steak was not worth 3 bucks. I have had better $12 steaks at Applebee's. It was the first time I ever had a dry ribeye, no taste.... just aweful. I'm done. Just like most area restaurants, start out great and slowly go downhill.

From the moment we walked through the doors of Firebirds, we knew we were in for a treat! The general ambience was beautiful and intimate. From the friendly staff to the delicious food, we thouroughly enjoyed our time there. My husband ordered the prime rib and I ordered the filet. I can honestly say we could cut both with a fork! We also ate their creme brulee cheesecake! It was phenomanal! We cannot wait to go back there! By far the best restaurant in Winston Salem!

I just read some of the 2 and 3 start reviews for Firebirds. I can only say they are wrong. I have a fatal immune response to wheat. I die if I eat it. I let my server know this when our office went there for a luncheon. Even though we were a large party- our server Howard watched everything that came across my plate- including a sample bite a co worker tried to share. He stopped me just in time.
I took my husband there 4 months later. Howard not only remembered me- he remembered my name. The experience and the food were once again top notch. And other wait staff come by to see how things are without hovering. They just keep a watchful eye as the walk the floor. Very impressive. This is now my favorite place for excellent food and great service. And to customers that do not have a great experience there (or anywhere they eat) I can only ask- what are you bringing to the table? A good attitude and a welcome smile works both wsys.

When we dined here, I went in expecting more than we received. Service was slow and we always felt we were causing the waitress too much trouble, so we just stopped asking for anything. Can't say the food was anything comparable to the prices that came along with it. Too loud and the noise carried throughout the entire place. My husband and I could not even hear what the other was saying. Not a very relaxing meal.
Eating out suppose to be an enjoyable experience, great food, along with friendly, excellent service. I have the experience of eating at Firebird on two occasions, and neither times, did I leave thinking, this is a good restaurant. I have a allergy to the enzymes in vegetables, and I tell the wait staff, no vegetables on my plate, they almost appear to get angry, and not want to serve me from that point on because I can not eat or have them on my plates .Another complaint I have is they appear to have selected friendliness, we I was there, 4 to 5 wait staff would visit some tables, and there I was waiting a for my food , and coffee, for over 30 minutes , and no one came to our table to ask are you okay, do you need anything. If the truth be told this is a sub restaurant, with overrated reviews

The decor of this restaurant is really really nice. It lead us to believe we would be eating some of the best food we'd ever had. Unfortunately, it was very mediocre for the most part. We ordered the homemade chips with bleu cheese dressing and the chips were not warm at all. The hot chips from Ham's are much better. Seemed like they came right out of a bag. Plus, they were borderline burnt. We ordered a virgin pina colada that tasted like the prepackaged ones straight from your grocers freezer section. We didn't drink it and eventually the waitress took it from us and knew we didn't care for it but it remained on our bill. I got the herb rubbed prime rib. It was ok.I finished half of it before the waitress came back with the au jus for it. There was hardly enough herbs to look at and none to taste. OutWest Steakhouse in Kernersville has a better Prime Rib. My husband got Grilled Salmon and Lobster Tail. The lobster was very good my husband said. The salmon was probably no better than what I could make at home. My son got the Firebirds Chicken Pasta and thought it was a little too bacony, but if you enjoy bacon flavor, you may like this dish. My daughter didn't enjoy her Baby Back Ribs very much and preferred to eat off everyone else's plate. The server was pleasant but I think really should have taken the drink off the bill. Overall, it wasn't as good as it should have been but maybe it is still working out the kinks as they have only been open since April 2008. Hopefully, they will improve.
