Today my friends and I had lunch at Great Castle and our experience was horrific! We all had a lunch combination. The rice was mushy, over cooked and greasy. The water tasted like rusted pipes and the sweet and sour shrimp was soupy. I was served hot and sour soup without a choice and when I asked for egg flower instead the waitress cut me a dirty look by rolling her eyes. The place is too dark and the serving staff is curt and unfriendly. The fried chicken wingette was freezer burned and had a weird taste. None of us finished our plates and we asked to speak to the manager regarding the quality of the food. When she arrived, by the way this was the eye roller, she engaged us in an argument and insisted that no one else had complained. At the end of our debate, she said, "I'll bring your check." I said that is poor customer service. I've been here before and liked it, but today it was plain nasty. She walked off in a huff. We won't return! Ever! I'll also make sure to tell my friends. I don't care how long they've been open or how many people like it...anyone can have an off day...acknowledge it, apologize,comp your customer and they will return. Trust me, I'm a big chick and I enjoy a good meal. This one was awful...couldn't eat it!

I travel a lot and I love Chinese food like crazy. I always try to find good Chinese restaurants anywhere I go and being a Bakersfield resident my obvious comparison falls between Great Castle and the new places. Hands down food wise Great Castle is second to none. I love this place. Wish they served dim sum. They need to improve the overall look and to add new and exciting ways to offer us more varieties.

5 Star Chinese food - right here in Bakerfield! Plus a family run business that knows you by name. We have been to many China towns in major cities and are proud to have Young run her restaurant in out hometown.
i have been dining at great castle for over 30 years. like the rest of the reviewers, the food is outstanding.....have found none better.greater that any other place i have visited. the variety of dishes is however, i think that the service is even better. staff is always kind,courtous, promopt and friendly. i would suggest that you mention to your waiter your favorite of dishes and ask for their suggestions. i have experienced times when i asked them to make something special that wasn't on the menu...no problem.....they always accomodiate.

Great Castle is the best chinese food I have ever had. Whenever you crave food and you finally get it, it usually is not all you wanted it to be or remember it from the last time. But Great Castle never disappoints.

All the people who go there to eat come very very satisfied and are frequent visitors. If I could, I would eat there every day. It is the best of the best. Super food, very friendly people and very resanable price. What else do I need?

I have travelled the world and just came back from China and ate some wonderful food. The Castle ranks up there as one of the very best Chinese restuarants I have experienced. Ambience is dated but the food is outstanding

Everyone else is right--this IS the best Chinese food in Bakersfield! If you haven't eaten there please try it--you won't be sorry!

Excellent food and service. The best chinese food I have ever eaten. Whenever we are looking for that "special occasion" dinner, we always go to the Great Castle.

Great Castle has to be one of the best, if not the best Chineese Restaurant I have ever been to. I have been going to Great Castle for 10 years and the food and the service has not gone down one bit. In my opinion, Great Castle is a Five star restaurant.
