This morning I suddenly had an intense craving for corned beef hash and so I looked to my GPS to help find me the nearest IHOP. It found the one in North Pointe. When it was time to order I asked the waitress if I can have just the corned beef hash. She said no and that I had to order it with a meal she showed me the more expensive meal the 7.99 one. And so I thought, hmmm, should I insist on getting just the hash or succumb to her offer and just maybe it'll help her out if I order this more expensive meal. I ended up choosing the latter and just thought, ok, if I don't finish it, I can just box it up and take it home, no biggie. She was more than happy to take my order. But, it took a while for my order to arrive. The diner to my right was served way before I was, and I was there before her. I was almost done with my second cup of coffee when my order finally arrived. The corned beef hash was not what I expected. It looked like someone just grabbed one of those cheap canned corned beef and slapped it on a plate mixed with some diced potatoes and heated up in the microwave. It was awful. Needless to say, I did not finish it. I did have some pancakes that I just wanted to just box up. So, I asked the waitress for a box and I ordered the Crispy Banana Cheesecake to go, it's a favorite of mine. Which it turned out was a major mistake. She had me wait almost 30 mins for the box, which I had to ask for from the manager, and the cheesecake. When the manager finally gave me the cheesecake it looked like it was sitting for a bit. The manager was very aware of how long I had been waiting but no apologies were extended. With a single order worth more than 15 bucks during a time when they weren't very busy I expected better customer service. I was to put it plainly, ignored. I have to say that it was one of the worst customer service I had experienced at a restaurant, and I have been to many.

I've eaten at the bistro 5 times and each time I have been very satisfied in every category. It's so much better than many places I have eaten that were rated higher.

No matter what the waitstaff tells you, do NOT order ribs at this IHOP. We were told that they were good....not excellent but good. They were gross. The fat to meat ratio was incredible and when we complained, the waiter just mumbled something about, "That's too bad." We should have known better...stick with the pancakes.

My 10yo son adores IHOP. He and I visited this morning. He made a special request during a busy time. Unfortunately, this was made incorrectly, and we waited half an hour for the corrected item, and had to repeat at least five separate times to four individuals these words, "We want a funny face pancake exactly the way it is on the menu." This seemed mysteriously impossible for the staff to comprehend, although they all appeared to be native English speakers. Twice, a plain pancake was brought to us. (At this point the family at the next table made this unsolicited comment, laughing: "We're not having any trouble understanding you.") While we were waiting, my meal grew cold, until finally we succumbed to hunger and shared my meal. The waiter came by and said, "since his food never came, we won't charge you for it." He then brought the check as if we would be leaving. I informed him that my son was still hungry and I did not intend to leave before I had fed him. He offered us a free pancake, which I accepted. A staff member approached us and asked me to speak with the general manager about our experience. I approached the manager on my way out and told him that I felt they had seated customers they could not serve. He said, "I'm sorry," in a manner that seemed entirely dismissive and patronizing, and it was very clear that he was not interested in hearing me, so I left.

We always get good service at the Burlington NC IHOP.
