I recently brought my parents and soon to be in-laws here for Easter Sunday dinner. What a mistake. The waitress was grumpy and unpleasant from the word go. Our meals were mediocre at best and the coffee was so bad that my 82 year old father in law asked for a fresh cup only to be met by a smug attitude. Needless to say we tried to make the best of it being Easter. When I went to pay the waitress returned my amex and stated it had been denied. I quickly gave her another and tried to hide my humiliation. When I got home I called amex and was told my card was being flagged for fraud and the restaurant was asked to call the CC center. Amex did not deny my charge, they were simply protecting me. I guess the waitress couldn't bother having me take up her time and calling, so she chose to disgrace me instead.
After an overpriced, uneventful meal being embarrassed was the final abuse. I called the next day and no one bothered to return my call. The following day I called the hotel and received more of the same.L'escale is far from the old world charm and hospitality that is advertised. Save your patience and your money.

My experience at this establishment was painful at best. We went for Easter dinner with my soon to be in-laws in April of 2007. The waitress was rude, the food was mediocre and tedious, the servers were smug. My 82 yr old father in-law asked for cup of fresh coffee after being served a stale cup and had to listen to attitude. The final straw came when I was told by our new waitress, as the first one left in the middle of Easter Sunday service, That my amex was denied. Now we all have in-laws so you can imagine my embarassment. I paid quickly with another card and we all avoided the elephant in the room "Is he broke?"
When I got home I called amex and was told that I came up on a fraud alert and they asked the restaurant to call and confirm it was me using it, amex promised they did not decline my card.
After spending $100 per person for a mediocre meal from rude people I really felt abused. I called the next ay for an apology, no one returned my call. The following day I called the Hotel it is in and was told they have nothing to do with the food service within their establishment. "Old world charm and Hospitality" is how they present themselves- I beg to differ. Mistakes happen, people have bad days, these things happen. To not care or respond to my humiliation at their establishment left me no choice but to warn you away.
