My husband and I visited New Orleans 7 years ago as a then engaged couple. We enjoyed lunch at the Market Cafe where my husband was able to request "A Wonderful World" to be played by the jazz musicians in the cafe. Lunch was great. Overall a nice and for us a memorable dining experience. We returned on Jan. 3, 05 with our small children. Our children are quite picky eaters, so we brought some snacks for them along and my husband and I intended to order fully from the menu. First, we were seated by a young man who was immediately confronted by a waitress "because he had stolen her table". Then after ordering our food, we were approached at our table by this same angry waitress and what I assume was the owner or amanger or both of the cafe loudly admonishing us for our snacking children. We tried to explain, but were told that they didn't know where we came from, but this was not acceptable. We told them to cancel our order (quietly. They were loud and embarassing) and while on our way out of the cafe, the angry waitress looked at me and loudly hissed, "rude".
Believe me, there is not food good enough to tolerate this kind of behavior from anyone who claims to serve the public.
I would not recommend this cafe to anyone due to the treatment we receive. BTW. My husband and I enjoyed dinner at the Cammander's Palace the previous evening and also Antoine's and Arnaud's on other visits to New Orleans. For some reason we certainy fit into these other establishments.
I've eaten here on several occasions for take out and the ribs are fantastic. i decided to dine in one Thursday for steak night and i arrived 2.5 hrs after the start, and steaks were sold out, i settled for the fish plate and it was delicious, but i'

Ordered lunch to go for five. Fried shrimp salad scary...small peices of pre-breaded shrimp way too salty so I tried to peel off the breading but impossible because they were so overcooked. Not as described on menu, lettuce looked fresh but tasted

We've had their muffellettas (sp) and seafood gumbo two years in a row and have been very pleased each time. The food is very good and the price, for being in the "Quarter", is definately right!
