a diner from Bloomington, IN / Chiba, Japan
Since moving to Bloomington after 7 years in Japan, I have tried every Japanese restaurant in Bloomington and found Mikado to be by far the most authentic and the best. We had a full dinner-- both sushi and traditional dishes to share. Eggplant, Horenso (spinach) and nigiri were all fresh and properly done. I like the fact that the restaurant does not seem to over do the spices for the American palate the way many Japanese places in the US do. They also do not confuse teppanyaki (Japanese food designed for Americans) with real Japanese dishes. The selection of Nihonshu was poor however. I would like to see a decent ginjo (i.e. dewasakura) on a menu somewhere in the USA.
