Pete Fumo's Italian Restaurant was started by Chef Ken Benson, a distinguished graduate of the prestigious Culinary Institute of America. After years of working in family restaurants outside New York City, Chef Benson brought his dream of having a small, authentic Italian restaurant to Texas. With over thirty years of culinary experience, Chef Benson's mix of real New York-style pizza and Old World pasta favorites is the best food in the Austin area.

Here in Austin, Chef Benson draws his inspiration from Pete Fumo, his beloved father-in-law and the face you see in many photos on the restaurant walls. Pete Fumo was the son of Italian immigrants who moved to the New York City area a century ago to realize the American dream. After serving as a cook in the U.S. Army during World War II, Pete married the girl of his dreams. He and his dear wife Helen spent their days working hard and building a family. The kitchen was always filled with enticing aromas of fresh basil, sausage and meatballs, crusty bread, and simmering "gravy," what Pete called tomato sauce. Pete would be proud that his mother's recipes are now enjoyed by Texans who love real, home-style Italian food.
