I have been to over 40 countries and eaten in many places. The Sam's in Alaska in my favorite place for a "diner" / bar atmosphere and meal. The $20 for 3 lbs of ribs (or $11 for 1.5 lbs) is the best value if you like ribs. (I usually get the 3 pounds and take a doggie bag home with me). And as far as ribs go, they get my vote every time. I always ask for Kurt if he is on duty. Makes me feel like I am his most important customer of the day. I love all the old memorabilia and atmosphere. Have not had a bad experience yet, which is more than I can say about a number of classier places.

I frequent the Alaska location on 68th most often. To be honest, the food is good, but not great- hoever I never expected it to be fine dining. My children love all the things to look at, and I can see their imagination run wild sitting there admiring the decor. Other than it being a little loud sometimes, and the occasional poor server (which is no different than any other restaurant), I find it an enjoyable experience, and visit about once a month. If you're looking for a seasoned chef, or a 5 minute meal, then you will be disappointed. However, if you're looking for a nice dinner in an interesting environment then Sam's is worth a try.

Entered at 5:55... seated at 5:56...I told my wife "these guys have 5 minutes." But I could see that they got busy with a table of 8 and 4 all of a sudden. So I waited and at 6:06 my favorite waitress asked me how I was doing and brought me a Heineken post haste. If you can't wait 5 minutes, then you are a complete idiot and you need to go to McDonalds and get served by your equal. Earlier comments were unbelievably, ridiculously harsh and you really need a reality check.

Visited your restaurant in Alaska on Friday May 1st. Entered at 5:55p.m. Hostess sat us within 2 minutes. We sat until 6:00p.m. and I told my wife they have 5 minutes. At 6:05p.m. we walked out without a single employee acknowledging us at all. A party of 8 came in and they got service. A few minutes later a party of 4 came in and THEY GOT SERVICE. My wife and I were both wearing Red Wing shirts that were bright red!!!!! Are they blind. Your establishment has just lost a good customer as we are in the Alaska area very frequently with my son that lives in Caladonia.

After visiting my son at Davenport University, we had a group of 13 drop in for dinner. We did call ahead and there was no problem seating us on a Saturday evening in January. The food and service was great. Overall, we only had one waiter and he did a fantastic job keeping up with us, the food was hot and done very well. We'll definitly be back again.

Fun for the whole family (and good food too). Some of the best ribs in the area highlight their extensive menu which includes everything from tex-mex to italian fare. The kids won't want to miss the "Chucky Cheesesque" stage show while the whole family will marvel at Sam's eclectic mix of knickknacks & collectibles covering the walls and ceilings of what was once a church (I think). The "Alaska joint" is our favorite Sam's. Try it, you'll like it. Located in the heart of Alaska (Michigan).
