Restaurant Description

"The Peddler Inn"

Owned by Captain John Graham in the late 1700's, "The Peddler Inn" and its grounds were part of a 331 acre plantation put up for auction in 1799. The property description then included: a house, barn, springhouse, grist mill and sawmill.

In the more recent past "The Peddler Inn" started its food service era in 1937. Owned by Fred Platt, it was operated as a gas station providing ice cream and snacks.

Ernie McClure was next to own "The Peddler Inn." It was Mr. McClure who obtained a liquor license and a name..."The Horseshoe Pike Inn."

In 1955 Mary and Oliver Kelly became the next owners. The name changed to Kelly's Horseshoe Pike Inn" and expansion took place.

1974 brought about a new innkeeper....Paul DiMicco. "Kelly's Horseshoe Pike Inn" was now "The Peddler Inn."

1982 witnessed the most recent change of ownership to Steven Kellon. In his care the name has remained and the building has been enhanced with further expansion.

The passage of time has been kind....Enjoy!

I took my mom for a late lunch not knowing they closed from about 2:30 to 4:00 to get ready for the dinner hour. We were warmly greeted by the owner who invited us in and said she would open the dining room for us. I ordered scallops, salad and fries. About a dozen large scallops arrived hot and tender; cooked to perfection. My mother ordered veal parmesan and wanted mashed potatoes. They weren't on the menu, but were made at her request. Mom said the veal was fresh and tender and the potatoes delicious. For dessert I had the Italian Lemon Custard Cake; it was a perfect dessert. Light and moist vanilla cake with a light lemon custard and dusted with powdered sugar, a side dollop of whipped cream and sliced strawberry. Even the coffee was fresh and delicious. The owner is a lovely woman and we could not have felt more welcomed. The best part. . . under $40 for 2 meals, coffee and dessert. Peddler Inn is definitely added to the list of favorite places.

I was very pleased when I dined at The Peddler Inn last Saturday night. The building is gorgeous as it is, but we sat in the room with the big french-style windows. I was very pleased with the service, very polite young girl, our candle was lit and we were given complimentary bread and delicious mushrooms. I had a petite filet and my husband the lobster, and everything was cooked perfectly, and big portions! This place doesn't get the credit it deserves! I will definitely return.

Folks, I've been to many places that serve fine food. The quality and service for a very fair price that this establishment offers will amaze you. The prime rib is not only HUGE, but is done to perfection and delicious. The other entrees are just as good. Even though I live app. 45 minutes away, I always look forward to a return trip. As I have written many times on the "comment card," I'll be back!
