Recommended to us by desk staff at Embassy Suites as a really good, family operated restaurant which really cares. Made sure we shared our opinion when we got back to the hotel.
This is probably the worst $100 we have ever spent for a meal, ever.
Starter: Onion Soup. We really love onion soup. Description made it sound like FRENCH Onion Soup. Big mistake. They tried, but it had been cooked about 6 hours short of anything that would even be considered close to french onion soup. It seemed like they tried to add some more onions in way too late in the cycle. Part of the onions were really crunchy and the broth had no depth. Worst part: $11 a pop. We've had great onion soup for $5 or $6 a pop, 10 times better than this. Told the server, no reaction. The management and cook staff did not seem to exist nor give a rat's behind.
Next: salad. About the most mundane iceberg lettuce salad in the history of mankind. McDonalds could do better.
Ribeye: quite good but the "beans" side was not available. Saturday nite, not available.
"Award Winning" beef ribs: skimpy on meat, pretty tough and very fatty. Not as fatty as some, fattier than most. We think they "awarded" this to themselves.
And when we left, there was no one around to even tell our opinions to.
Bottom line: if you are in Lompoc, go down to the Jalama Cafe. Absolutely excellent and about 75% better value.
