Minneapolis offers inspiring outdoor activities

Creativity and outdoor fun have no limits in Minneapolis. Perhaps it's the abundance of water – the city sits on both banks of the Mississippi River and cradles many lakes and wetlands – or the many parks that inspire educators, artists, writers, and others who call Minnesota's largest city home. Whatever the reason, visitors can expect this unique city to refresh and invigorate them as they enjoy the many outdoor, cultural, and entertainment choices here. The arts have had a long presence in Minneapolis. The Minneapolis Institute of Arts has been popular for decades and features thousands of pieces. The city also is home to the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, and Weisman Art Museum. The city's parks system is one of the best anywhere, and features many sites that are linked. The Chain of Lakes provides an abundance of biking and running routes as well as walking paths, swimming, fishing, boating, and ice-skating opportunities to choose from. You shouldn't miss a chance to visit the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden and Bird Sanctuary or the area's waterfalls, such as Minnehaha Falls and St. Anthony Falls. Runners, golfers (there are some five courses in the city), bicyclists, sport fishermen, snow skiers, and other outdoor lovers have made Minneapolis one of the country's most popular destinations for these and many related activities.
