pier 29 on ballena blvd has excellent service and food and is a pleasant atmosphere for those who find tranquility next to the water. it has views both facing the marina and the san francisco bay, which can be seen from any table.

i am a regular and eat at the pier at least once a week. the food has a home-cooked style, which not only satisfies my hunger for great seafood, but gives me a comforting feeling. there isn't any other restaurant in alameda like this one.

i recommend that one makes a reservation before dining, especially on the weekends and if you're dining with a large group of people. i've seen some people get upset because they have to wait twenty minutes. but if you go to any other corporate restaurant like elephant bar, they don't even take reservations and the wait can be up to two hours. in my opinion, pier 29 is very resposive to customers' needs.

as far as the service goes, the staff works very hard and everyone is both friendly and attentive. they each have their own personalities and always greet me with a smile.

my all time favorite dishes are the prime rib, petrale sole dore, the steamed clams, and the chateaubriand. (mmmm..so good)!! but the hardest part is deciding what i want because there's so much to try and so much to choose from! i recommend this restaurant to couples, singles who are out looking for a relaxing evening, and families who simply want to eat out!

There seems to be lots of confusion about this reataurant! "The Ark" has moved to the pier 29 address...the "Pier 29" restaurant is now located on Balena Blvd and I too experienced overly long waits between seating and serving but assumed it was because of the 'early bird' crowd.

Went to restaurant (now in Alameda) for lunch on a Saturday and had delicious blackened salmon. Not too crowded so wait wasn't long. Weather was nice so we ate outside. I'd recommend it!

This restaurant has moved to Balena Blvd. Unfortunately neither the food or service was worth the price. After waiting over 1 hour after ordering...I told a waitress ( the only one I could find) that I and my party were leaving and could wait no longer. In the parking lot an irate and abusive owner `Ron` thjreatened and verbally assaulted me and my party. I WILL NEVER GO BACK.

We have enjoyed the early bird dinners, a great value, for several years. The move to Alameda locates the restaurant in a more accessible and overall nicer area and the new digs are far nicer than the old ones. The only reason for three stars on food and service is that some folks night quibble over the food, which we love, or want a waiter hovering over them all the time. Four our tasts, both food and service are four stars. We will continue to enjoy this place.

We've lived in the area for 10 years and FINALLY got a chance to try this place last month. With 2 kids and "a set of grandparents", we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner, from appetizers, soup and/or salad, to entrees, to desserts; great value whether you order from the Early Bird, kid's or regular menu, too! We'll definitely be back!!!

My husband and I eat there often. We enjoy the restraunt and the friendlty waiters. The food is good especially for the price.

I read one of your other reviews from a man in San Leandro and he said the deck should be heated and made better us of and also that they should divide off an area for groups. Either this man was at some other restraunt or he just plain doesnt know what he is talking about. First there is NO deck at Pier 29. There is a dock for boats to tie up on. Its about 3 feet wide and not a place to spend time or in need of heat. Second there is a room seperated by doors with windows that is used for groups. We have had several group events there and the room is very popular. So I dont give his review much value.

Its a good friendly place to go with good food at reasonalbe prices. Their early bird meals are especially popular because of the good discounts.

Although there were only 4 tables of diners (at 5:15), we waited nearly 15 minutes for a menu. We ordered drinks (served before the meal in my world) which arrived with our dinner. We sent them back, but the waitress and bartender couldn't understand our problem with cocktails being served with the meal. There were four drinkers at the bar, and apparently no procedure or setup to prepare drinks for diners in a timely way. The bartender was involved with the bar patrons, rather than just preparing drinks. This place needs a good manager who understands the importance of planning procedures and training staff to follow them. The food was ok, but not outstanding, given the price range. The view is very pleasant, but the outside deck could certainly be utilized much, much better, by installing heaters to make it accessible year round. There is a lot of junk and debris spoiling the view, and the deck wasn't that clean. This restaurant could close off an area for banquets very easily with portable trellis-type dividers and screens, or even lightweight enclosures for privacy and comfort of other diners. This would make them very popular with the groups and clubs always looking for places to meet and eat.
