Diverse cultural events throughout the year and endless fun on the San Joaquin Delta make Stockton a vibrant place to visit whether on business or leisure. Located less than a two-hour drive from the San Francisco Bay Area, Stockton has been called "a surprisingly exotic destination." You'll quickly feel the same way once you begin your visit here. Take advantage of the many museums, galleries, dining, sports, and entertainment choices. Families won't want to miss a day at Pixie Woods Amusement Park, the city's own fairyland that features pirates, an express train, and more. The Children's Museum of Stockton features hands-on, play-based exhibits that educate children about many subjects, entertaining them at the same time. The Delta is a source for much of the fun in Stockton. Take advantage of a Delta River Cruise to San Francisco. You can return the same day by train or stay over night and return to Stockton the next day via boat. Shorter trips of two hours, a half-day or full day are also available to nearby ports. The Saturday Stockton Farmers Market is held year-round while the Downtown Stockton Certified Farmers Market is held on Friday's from May through October. Festivals are abundant here, and celebrate the area's rich agricultural and diverse ethnic heritage. If you happen to come in April, make sure you attend the annual Asparagus Festival. That same month the University of the Pacific holds The Brubeck Festival, named for local jazz great and alumnus Dave Brubeck. The city's calendar also features the Cambodian New Year celebration, Jewish Food Festival, Filipino Barrio Fiesta, the San Joaquin Fair, the Greek Festival, and in December, the Stockton Festival of Lights and Boat Parade.
