I grew up in Columbia and discovered El Menchaca back in 1977 when working just down the street from them. I continued to eat there until they closed. My wife and I had eaten there hundreds of times over the years and truly miss the authentic Mexican food. I have searched tirelessly and have not been able to find another Mexican restaurant to compare. I have resorted to trying to recreate the Monster (the name of a huge burrito they made)I'm close but can't get the meat to taste right.

Unfortunately, this fabulous restaurant is no more. It was simply the best Mexican in a 150 mile radius, with a green salsa to simply die for. It was hard to find, in maybe not the prettiest part of town, but for authentic Mexican it could not be beat. To spend a Friday night there, sipping their margaritas and eating a Monster was to be in heaven. It is dearly missed.
