Empty for a good reason. The food was seasoned only with [too much] salt and the server could not have cared less that it was poorly made. There was no one at the desk on the way out to mention the problems to.

This used to be our favorite Mexican restaurant when I left Columbia 5 years ago. I just moved back here and went to the Monterry for dinner on Saturday night. Couln't figure out why the place was so empty, I can remember having to wait for a table in the past. It became apparent very soon-the service is lousy. It took forever to get our drinks and we had to beg for another basket of chips while we waited, and waited, for our food. The food is still passable and is a good value, but two hours for dinner for 4 people is unacceptable
THE BEST MEXICAN FOOD HANDS DOWN! AND THEY HAVE JUST OPENED ON MY SIDE OF TOWN. KNOCKS SAN JOSE AND MONTERREY OUT. THEY DONT HAVE ONE ON EVERY STREET CORNER BUT YOU CAN TELL WHO EVER IS RUNNING THESE PLACES IS ALWAYS AROUND TO ENSURE THE FOOD IS JUST

I grew up in Columbia and discovered El Menchaca back in 1977 when working just down the street from them. I continued to eat there until they closed. My wife and I had eaten there hundreds of times over the years and truly miss the authentic Mexican
