Nashville's famous Gerst Brewing Co. was once a landmark in the Nashville area. William Gerst, a brewmaster from Germany, located in Nashville in 1890 to open the William Gerst Brewing Co. The brewing company continued to brew beer until 1955 when it closed. From the original tasting room in the front of the old brewery, a restaurant was formed. In 1997, the owners of Gerst Haus purchased the old Heldt and Voelker Hardware building and brought the Nashville institution to Evansville. Cold Gerst beer, good German beer, good German food, and traditional German music can be enjoyed by all.
