Having just been in Italy a few months ago, I've been a bit hesitant to go to any Italian restaurants - esp. those that i've never been to. I have to say - Il Davide did NOT disappoint. I love the host who is all suited up - a tan, older gentlemen who helps ground the place. The interior is pretty bare bones - but it works - and I think they did a fantabulous job of creating a low-key, but nice, atmosphere.
On to the imporant part: the food. Starting out with the truffle & mushroom tortellini was a super good call. Delump! Then we shared the prawns wrapped in pancetta is this spicy, dangerous pepper sauce & the scallops (again with truffle) special. Washing it all down w/the Cakebread Sav Blanc was a delightful treat! The bartender struggled to make an espresso martini at first but after a few tries (which they were REALLY cool about, by the way) it came out nearly as perfect as the ones they serve at Frantoio & Bungalow 44.

We have eaten at Il Davide many times. It is always special and it is definitely our favorite Italian restaurant in San Rafael
