Johnson's Southern Kitchen food is on the low end when it comes to flavor. They do give you a lot of food but the taste is nothing to be desired. The greens are full of stems and are not seasoned. They are very bland. The cornbread dressing does not have any sage or poultry seasoning in it. I have never tasted such bad dressing in my life. The yams are mush. The canned corn is a little too sweet. The strings beans are from a can and taste like it. I cannot believe people are raving over this poor food. So few people cook any more that they are excited about getting food they think is close to homemade. However, it is best to pass this place up. They are at the bottom when it comes to other soul food places in Detroit. Go if you want, but I think those who are used to good food will walk away disappointed.

The food is good and portions are fair. They should open up another location though.

Usually when I go I always get smothered pork chops or smothered or fried chicken with mac & cheese and candied yams. Their candided yams are 2 die 4. Keep up the good work!!!!!

This is by far the best restaurant in tha "D". This will be my competition for my future business, unless I will open up outside of Michigan. Maybe we will do something together. Who knows. THUMBS UP & HATS OFF to the staff at Johnsons Southern Kitchen! ! !
a diner from Eastside of Detroit (I go a long way to get the best!)
The menu serves up some of the best soul food in the Detroit area. Their yams are the best I've ever eaten and melt in your mouth. Their fried and smothered chicken are to die for. Their mac and cheese is soooo delicious. Their green beans are by far the best I've ever eaten. Their black eyed peas are great. Their pork chops are scrumptious. The meatloaf is just like grandma's and their fish is good, too. I have yet to find anything on the menu I don't enjoy. I'd recommend it to anybody and I'd put my money on Johnson's against anybody else!!
This is the best soul food resturant in detroit. Now I have been to quite a few in my time but their food is truly like homemade. I usually get the smothered chicken with yams and macoroni and cheese. Their yams are the number one best. Truly test better than the ones made at home.
