This is where the coast road disappears under the fresh lava from Kilaeuea Volcano, a great place to have a burger with fries and contemplate creation at the same time...

We love the Ono burgers and the mac salad. The place has mucho aloha. The ocean is right across the road and we hiked to the place where we saw the lava flowing into the ocean. Actually, we saw a steam cloud with spurts of red lava in it.We have a place in Waa Waa, we love it so much!!Make sure to visit Kalapana for the wonders of your life!!!

We call this place "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe" and recommend it to anyone contemplating visiting the big island. It is indeed at the intersection of civilization and volcanic destruction. The plate lunches are the best, they will not reveal their recipe for macaroni salad, and have banished employees who have tried to steal it for competitors. You've got to try the teriyahi whatever, the chicken and the fish plates before you ever consider a hamburger. You are in Hawaii, go Hawaiian!
