a diner from New Rochelle, NY, where else?
I have been eating at the Mirage for years. It is good for a quick relatively cheap meals, and haute cuisine is not to be expected. Some of the wait staff is nice (the younger ones) and the rest are just doing a job. This is very much the New York diner culture.
I found the first review interesting as I am not a person of color and have been waited on many times by Latin and African American staff, as well as the "white" staff. Oh, and yes the hosts don't give a darn who you are unless they know you and the service is spotty at best.So don't take it personally!
This is definitely not a place for gracious dining, but everyone in town (Mayor, Ministers, Professors, Moms, kids, Iona College students, local celebrities and business people, etc.) goes there because you get decent grub quickly and for a decent price.

It's a dirty place and horrible service to the point I felt discriminated.

Starting with the unfriendly hostess who simply pointed us to a table while she greeted and personally directed the three people behind us and who came after us and who received menus first! That was odd.
Anyway we proceeded to a table which we thought the hostess finger pointed but she soon slightly gruntly redirected us to an adjacent table and provided us with menus. The seats were covered with crumbs which we dusted-off ourselves. Within seconds a waiter came and he clearly did not look happy and basically threw the napkins on the table. During our stay we noticed another oddity, caucasian customers were attended by caucasian waiters and noncaucasian customers were attended by noncaucasian waiters. Now, it is not my purpose to be offensive but we all know this things still happen today; by the way the three people who arrived after us and who were seated first were caucasian. The waiters (mostly hispanic) looked annoyed and irritated, none smiled, the place simply did not have a pleasant environment. What annoyed me the most was when the hostess, while laughing and chatting with other top staff, looked and ignored my mother when she called for the bill. When we approached to pay, the cashier ignored us and walked away, a busboy loudly called the cashier telling him that we were waiting to pay!! We did not even get a slight “thanks for coming” from anybody.

Food came quick, tasteless hash browns, pancakes were bland.

I do not recommend the Mirage Diner.

We had lousy service from our waitress and the gratuity was automatically included. I would not have left her 15% because she didn't deserve it. My friend waited longer than everyone else and never got his meal. The meal he initially wanted was not a ...

Great place to eat and relax by the water. The service is excellent and the food is great. I stongly recommend it.

I really got excited to see so many new places on Division Street in downtown New Rochelle. I was dazzled by this cute little bistro with an outdoor patio. I had the eggs benedict and they were to die for!

Cute little place with great warm friendly service. My only complaint would be the wine list. Good wine but not enough choices

The Waterfront is an amazing restaurant! The service, the food, and the atmosphere is great. The baby back ribs are to-die-for, and so is the balboa! They just underwent some renovations during September-October. On a nice night, the outdoor seating ...
