Otto’s was created with the goal of providing high quality food and excellent service at a great value.
Otto’s is located at 392 Bloomfield Avenue in Caldwell, NJ. In 1967, Sal Dattolo opened Joe’s Pizzeria at the very same location. From 1967 to 1986, Joe’s Pizzeria was a thriving business in the center of Caldwell. During Sal’s ownership he and his wife Franca had three sons, Philip, Angelo and Michael. Each one started working at Joe’s pizzeria as soon as they were tall enough to reach the counter. Throughout the 19 years each brother worked at Joe's at various times.
In 1986 Sal sold Joe’s Pizzeria and he duplicated the success of Joe’s in other parts of New Jersey. Coincidentally, Philip became a general manager of an automobile dealership. Angelo became a lawyer and Michael took Wall Street by storm for Deutsche Bank.
After Sal’s sale of Joe’s Pizzeria, the new owners unfortunately ran the business into bankruptcy.
Late in 2005, Sal’s sons, Philip, Angelo and Michael decided to reopen a business at the same location they spent many hours of their childhood and the place that their father achieved great success.
Led by Michael who left his lucrative Wall Street job, the three brothers have endeavored to reestablish the business that Sal proudly operated for so many years in Caldwell.
With experience gained at Joe’s Pizzeria and from lessons learned in their own careers, Philip, Angelo and Michael seek to come full circle by serving the community and achieving success doing what their father did.
So, Who is Otto? While in the process of renovating for the grand opening a photograph was found. This picture depicted a restaurant that stood in the same location as Joe’s Pizzeria. The picture was from the 1930’s and the name of the restaurant was Otto’s. Realizing that their lives were coming full circle, they decided that the restaurant should also come full circle.
