I had the pleasure of visiting Doc's with my golfing buddies last March and we had such a great time with the Oysters on the Half Shell , Beer & Crackers that it became an every day ritual for us. We now are planning another March trip to Gulf Shores and before we get to our accommodations Doc's f...

I am a local. and have been to Doc's both in Orange Beach many times you can depend on getting good fresh seafood at both these restaurant the best oyster I've ever eaten came from here, they were fried crispy, but not over cooked create your own platter is my favorite.LB
My parents retired in Baldwin County and visited Gulf Shores/Orange Beach for vacation for years before retiring. Doc's was a must go when in LA (lower Alabama for the uninformed). I still go when I visit them. Just thinking about Doc's is giving me a craving. Guess I'll have to visit Mom and Dad.
My girlfriend and I went Fri March 21 evening and was told a 30 min wait unless we wanted to eat at the bar when someone got up. That took two min and we were waited on by Donny and very friendly bartender with helpful tips on food choices. The gumbo was the best I have ever had and I tried gumbo ...
I thoroughly enjoy this restaurant. I have visited the south very much because of the hospitality it provides. I have never experienced any sort of racism or prejudices from anyone at this restaurant or south at all, and will continue to visit. Obviously, some feel that waiting on food when it is bu...
best fried shrimp on the planet...get the "Biggun'" shrimp and enjoy
We visited Lester's in the fall using one of the Restaurant.com coupons. What a great deal! We ate upstairs and had a great dining experience. The menu offers a variety of items to please anyone. Our server was very attentive and everything my husband and I had was excellent and tasty. Initially for...
If you want a real, southern, deep fried meal you've found the right place. Now, they have the grilled options for those of you who aren't really on vacation. But relax and enjoy the deep fried shrimp, oysters and anything else you can imagine. My family love to order take out from doc's. Its th...
The shrimp and gumbo are sooo above anything else that we usually don't eat shrimp the rest of the year. The greasy spoon look makes it all the better. The best food comes from the "questionable" looking places. My family enjoys the Gulf coast the first week of April every year.
THE FOOD AT THIS RESTAURANT IS OUTSTANDING; HOWEVER THE SERVICE STAFF IS COMPOSED MOSTLY OF YOUNGSTERS NOT PROFESSIONAL SERVERS. FOR THE PRICES NIX CHARGES THE WAIT STAFF SHOULD BE ADULT SERVERS WHO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. THE MANAGER (DONT KNOW HER NAME) LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING OUT OF MIDEVIL TIME...
The food was exquisit and very well prepared. However I was ignored at the door while waiting to be seated. Also, the restaurant has a nice atmosphere until you see the manager. Cruela Devil is the only way to describe it.
I was very disappointed to learn that Chef Leary is no longer employed at Nix, being that his name is still on the billboard and he is featured on the TV advertising. While he was there the food was superb. Now, it is ordinary. I would not frequent this restaurant again.
I have tried gumbo from many restaurants, and Doc's is by far the best I have ever had - nothing has even come close. One thing - I wish they could ship a couple of gallons to me. Doc's gumbo makes our trip to the Alabama Gulf Coast that much special.
If you enjoy the company of a friend who is ethnicity is African American, do not stop at this restaurant. I attempted to receive service at this "restaurant" but unfortunately the workers' ideas were before the idea of segregation. Obviously some people believe that the idea of racism is alive and ...
