Over 30 years ago the Nicklow brothers - Bill, Jimmy & Tony, opened the Shorewood Inn alongside the north shore of Moore Lake in Fridley. Since 1971 they kept the community smiling with their famous Greek hospitality and fine food that ranged from Nicklow family favorites like their original gyros made on the vertical spit to popular American fare. Meanwhile the brothers kept expanding their family restaurant operations into other part of the metro area.Over the 80's and 90's older brother Bill and younger brother Tony spread their wings to create Nicklow's Bar in Spring Lake Park, with Bill at the helm, and Tony headed up the Nicklow's in Crystal, then later opened Santorini in St. Louis Park, which moved to Eden Prairie in December of last year.
As the family spread out, Jim Nicklow decided it was the perfect time to take early retirement, and in 2005 he leased the historic Shorewood site to the Crab House which failed after four years, and he was left holding the property and the decision to sell or re-open it himself in 2009. "I always had a warm, sentimental spot for this lakeside restaurant - and it has always been close to my heart. Now as my kids have grownup, I felt I could add them to the mix as well," Jim explained. "So-we made a family decision to put our heart and soul into the operation, remodel the space, update the menu and rename the restaurant the Shorewood Bar & Grill. We're all thrilled," he added
