Nice restaurant, not great. Big portions and great taste, nothing fancy.
Perfect place to unleash your kids. Lots of pizza, no taste.

In the '70s, I frequented the former Gargano's East alongside my parents on weekend nights. I'll never forget Mama Gargano's dance with a bottle of wine balanced upon hear head or the legends of then President Jimmy Carter flying down regularly just to satisfy his cravings for the delicious Gargano's family recipes.

The days of Mama Gargano are now long gone, but her descendants carry the flame onward at the more quaint and cozy, Villa Gargano. Eating here is dark and intimate even during daylight hours due to the stained glass windows. And any curious kid (as I once was all those years ago) can peak over the front counter and watch the chefs spin their pizza dough.

With pizza now in mind, I must make a bold claim. I honestly feel that Villa Gargano has the best pizza potentially in the country. There's no doubt that it is the best pizza in the southern United States.

I have traveled around the United States and Europe and thus tasted my fair share of pizza from around the globe. And the pizza at Gargano's is really the best I've ever eaten. Not even in New York City could I find a rival to Gargano's pizza.

I am not sure what Gargano's secret recipe contains other than obvious little things such as a light coating of corn starch on the bottom of the crust.

Gargano's pizza has the perfect balance of sauce, cheese and crust texture. The pies at Gargano's for all intents and purposes are a type of Neapolitan fare, but the delicious creations chart their own original course.

It is stunning to think that potentially the best pizza in the United States is hidden deep down south in little Albany, Georgia. It's definitely worth the trip to experience this cuisine.

I have been eating at Gargano's since the 70's when my parents used to take us there on the weekend- I was young but remember getting the Shrimp Salad and mom and dad would get pizza- still love the ambience with the candles on the tables and the stained glass windows- Great place to eat!

We love Villa Gargano Rest. The best spag/meatballs ever. Servings are very, very generous. Great pizzas. In fact, all the dishes we have tried are wonderful. Great service. Just a nice place to eat great Italian food. Wish it was closer in distance to us. We just don't have a good Italian Rest. close by.

Villa Gargano is best described as "Redneck Italian." After eating real Italian food while serving in the military, they don't even begin to compare. And don't even think of ordering a drink other than beer because you will confuse them. How hard is it to make a white wine spritzer? It is just white wine and Sprite! The portions are also very small.

I have been eating at Gargano's since the 70's - Mama Gargano used to dance with the wine bottle on her head - was wonderful! The Gargano's "special" pizza is manna from heaven as far as I am concerned! Never have I tasted a pizza this wonderful! Cannot say enough about the pizza!!!

As a child my family would dine at Villa Gargano's in the 70's. My Dad was a US Marine and we lived close by on base housing. Since then, I've lived up and down the east coast including the Boston area and no other place compares to Gargano's. I still dream of their antipasta and pizza. We'd order two antipasta's and two pizza's and my sister and I would share it with one of our parents. My Dad passed away about 10 years ago and one of my greatest memories was sharing that dinner with him at Gargano's. I plan on someday returning to that wonderful place. In my life time....no other place has even compared. If I was the owner of Gargano's I would be thrilled knowing that my restaurant is one of the brightest memories of someone's childhood.

There is a need for much improvements. The menu and staff obviously were not use to catering to children. The food was not the best Italian food i've tasted. The management staff including owner & chef need to be educated in giving good customer service. We brought it to the waitress attention that the food was not properly cooked. There were 3 people that ordered the same thing we did and they all was not please with the same dish. The owner & chef refused to credit everyone for the dissatisfied food. We eventually refused to pay for the un-eaten pasta and only paid for the drinks and pizza. The owner was not friendly and the chef was very rude. Where is customer service in this place? Has anyone ever heard of pleasing the customer because they're the ones who make you or break you in this business. This place needs competition, maybe someone can recommend Olive Garden or just a good cook to try and open a Real Italian Restaurant in Albany, GA. They have a rule that if you don't like the food, you still have to pay for it. This rule is not in their menu nor posted anywhere in the public eyes. What type of standard is this????

I have been eating with the Gargano's family for over 35 years. Recently, I moved to middle Georgia and have yet to find a pizza that is comparable to the pizza at Gargano's. I try and get back to Albany to eat at Gargano's as often as possible. I like to eat one in the restaurant and get one to go. Best pizza anywhere.

My family and I have been eatting at Gargano's since I was born and before! This is the best place in the world to eat!! I grew up eatting there every friday night and saturdays too sometimes. This place not only holds many special family event memories but just good eatting. I live in North Georgia now but I still come to Albany from time to time and I have to stop by and eat a pizza while I'm there. My daughter (14yrs old)loves it as much as I always have. I still have family in the area that go there to eat often as well and they are like me...its the best place on earth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mr. Gargano (the one that started it out in east albany) had a gold mine in his food....and the legend lives on !!! Good job Gargano's!!!! Good job!!!! :)

The original Garganos in East Albany in the 60's
set the standard by which all pizzas are measured ! Never found anything close to it since !

Villa Gargano is an "ok" American-Italian style restaurant in Albany GA. It's better than the ubiquitous awful chains like Olive Garden, Macaroni Grill, Johnny Carino's, and Carabba's.

I stay in Albany on business once a month and I've eaten here a few times. The atmosphere is family friendly and I like that the owners tried to make it different with murals, awnings, and tall thin Italian Cypress on the outside of the building.

The baked pasta dishes are better than the linguine and fettucine dishes. The lasagne and ravioli was ok. The chicken marsala was not good, as the chicken was overcooked, the marsala wine was poor quality, and there was an overbundance of sage. Salads are basic iceburg, and the tomatoes on it were kept in the refrigerator and lost any flavor they may have had.
The Pizza is better than national chains such as Dominos or Pizza Hut, but does not compare to Pizza found in Philadelphia, New York, or even the mall chain Sbarro. Don't drink wine here as the small wine list makes no sense and does not match the menu.
One trip I brought my wife and children, ages 15 and 11, and they thought it was "ok". It's probably the better than any other Italian-style restaurant in Albany, though I haven't tried Picnic Pizza across the street. Of course, in this part of Georgia, the selection of decent non-chain, non-bbq dining is essentially non-existent. Pasta dishes are about $10 - $14.

This is by far the best pizza in all of Georgia. Their pizza is thin crust and you'll be hard pressed to find better. Go with the Gargano's Special pizza or salad and you can't go wrong.

Gargano's has by far the best pizza I have ever had at any restaurant in my life. A good thin crust done just right. Spectacular tomato sauce. Love this place
