On Monday October 5, 2009, I went and had breakfast at the International House Of Pancakes. I had three main criterions in mind of how I was going to review this restaurant. The first criterion is the professionalism of the staff. When you first walk into the restaurant doors, the first person you meet is the host/hostess. How they greet you could set up your entire experience. Personally, I was not impressed with the hostess. When I got to IHop, the hostess was nowhere to be seen. It took a good five minutes for us to get seated after we already waited for five minutes for someone to greet us. After we got seated we met our server. She was very upbeat and very productive. She greeted us promptly and brought our drinks soon after. Our food was brought out in a timely manner and our server checked on us frequently to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Overall I was very pleased with our server and she made the experience worthwhile.
The second criterion was how well the restaurant appealed to people of all natures. At IHop they have a variety of menu choices for all types of people. The first special menu you come upon is the Senior Specials. This is the menu for senior citizens ages 55 and older where they serve similar items that are on the regular menu just in smaller portions, and at a lower cost. The second special menu is the Just For Kids which provides choices for children 12 and under who can’t quite eat the normal size meal. The last special menu item is the IHop For Me. This menu is for the health conscious people. They provide meals that are all under 600 calories, use egg substitutes, turkey bacon and less fats, saturated fats and sodium. I ordered off the IHop For Me menu and was oddly satisfied with the turkey bacon. It was rather delicious. All in all I was very impressed with the menu choices. I feel I can bring my whole family to come and eat and they will find a meal that will fit them perfectly.
The last criterion I looked at was the cleanliness of the restaurant. This factor is what could either make or break your experience in the end. The cleanliness ranged from vacuumed floors to clean aprons on the staff. I felt that the building was very professionally kept and looked nice, or at least the parts that I saw. When the customers would be finished with their meal and leave to pay the bill, I noticed that the busboy would then come and clean the tables with bleach water and vacuum the floor to keep the table presentation appealing. I also noticed that all of the staff had clean aprons on. I was confused as to how food didn’t appear at all on the aprons so I asked my server why they were so neat. She replied that they must change out their aprons every few hours to keep looking presentable. I was very impressed with this information although I’m sure laundry costs are high.
My overall experience with IHop was decent and I had a good time. There were a couple of things that the management could improve on but all in all it was satisfying. My server was divine and I was impressed with the restaurant itself. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a delicious meal.
