I have been coming to this place for more than 30 years. My Mom used to take us every Friday when I was a kid. The food was always good and very reasonably priced. The former owner became a good friend to the family. She literally watched me grow up. However, what I experienced on my last visit scared me to the point that I will never return. The new owners or managers ( I don't believe the same person owns the restaurant eventhough they tell me she does) allowed a drunk guy to come into the restaurant cursing and swearing aloud as he walked in to use the bathroom. There are signs up at the front door that clearly state that there is no public bathroom and that the bathroom is for patrons of the restaurant only. He bought nothing. When my take out was ready I mentioned to the manager that I felt a little uneasy about the drunk guy. Unfortunately, the drunk guy overheard my fearful concern and proceeded to verbally attack me directly like nothing I have ever experienced in my life. I was called more derrogatory names than anyone should ever be subject to. The manager witness this disgusting tirade and did nothing. There were several other people waiting for their take out orders and not one person came to my defense eventhough I said nothing to the drunk guy before, during or after his verbal attack. This would have never happened under previous ownership because police used to be in the restaurant 24/7 eating and watching over the former owner. The restaurant is definitely in a rough end of town, but they never had any problems cause no one dared with cops hanging around the place all the time. I guess for me, this is something that truly crosses the line of what I'm will to go through to get a good meal, but if verbal tirades are something you're in to, then by all means, go for it! I will always treasure my fond memories of this once fine eating establishment, but I'm officially done with Kong's. I have never in the past or present allowed anyone to talk to me that way. I'm certainly not gonna let a perfect stranger disrespect me like that again in a public place. My advice to the new owners??? Do whatever it takes to get Minneapolis' Finest back in your restaurant during the dinner hour on the weekends or you'll likely lose a lot more long-time customers. And that would truly be ashame since the former owners spent so much time and energy building a loyal clientele.

I think this place is great! I have been a customer for over 30 years! They have great food at a price you cannot beat-- the service and friendliness you can't find anywhere else. Highly recommended--

This place has been on Lake Street for more then 25-30 years. Anyone from South Minneapolis knows this place if they have lived in the area over the decades. Very pleasant atmosphear and the service is fast and accurate. Never had a wrong order yet out of the many times that I have been there. Food is very reasonably priced and service is quick. Excellent experiences, and will always be a life long customer.
I'm from Sioux Falls, South Dakota but lived here while attending college 10 years ago. I keep coming back to this place when I am in town.
