Our first visit to Azul yesterday (5-23-08) was quite a pleasant dining experience.
Formerly Earl's, Azul has been redecorated and the new interior paint colors are bold and add to the ambiance. The wait station in the dining room has been screened from customer's view - something Earl's never figured out but is so much appreciated by diners.
Chips and salsa were brought to our table almost before we sat down. The chips were thin, warm and crisp and the salsa mild enough for our 84 years young Sun City dining companion to enjoy.
We ordered a couple of margaritas on-the-rocks, which were a bit sweet, but for only 99 cents each one really can't complain too much.
We sampled the green chili burrito, shredded beef burrito and 1/3 pound Angus Beef hamburger.
The green chili pork was tender, juicy and very well seasoned. I'm a chili-head and really like things hot and spicy, difficult to find anywhere near Sun City, so I appreciate the balance of flavors, spice and heat in this burro.
My wife said her shredded beef burrito was so good it reminded her of Rosa's Restaurant in Mesa so I had to take a bite. Excellent flavor, tender shreds of beef, red chili flavor redolent throughout. I wanted more but she wouldn't share.
The Angus Beef burger was cooked perfectly to order and served with freshly cooked fries - other sides are available. Lettuce, tomato, pickles, mayo, mustard and other condiments were, as ordered, on the side.
We selected draft beer to enjoy with our meal and were pleasantly surprised to discover Azul offering Blue Moon, Dos Equis, Fat Tire and many more draft beers at only 99 cents.
The cost of three meals, 2 margaritas and 2 draft beers was $24 and since the service was excellent and very attentive a $6 tip was added bringing the total price to $30.
Azul, great job and we will be back soon and often.
